Baby Cafe

For many months I have volunteered as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter on meetings called Baby Cafe. What does it mean? Baby Cafe is a place where new mums can meet professionals as breastfeeding councellors and health visitors and some volunteers. We talk. Usually mums are confused because of their babies suction reflex, but moreover they ask about introducing solids, putting on weight and many other things. We are there to make the women sure that they are doing very very well.

I volunteer once a week. What can I say, many mums are just too shy and unsure of their possibilities. Main problem is, they are scared of skin to skin contact (maybe the baby is cold?- they say) and of putting the child to the breast with certain movement (am I doing it right?- they ask).

Meanwhile we are ALL able to feed our babies with our own milk. Our babies are not cow babies, not goat babies, not coconut palm babies but human babies needing human milk. We have to believe that our body KNOWS and WANTS to breastfeed, our whole body desires to breastfeed the baby.

Nowdays we are often scared and disgusted with everything what is regarding to human body: blood, placenta, discharge, sweat, and, unfortunately, milk as well. But in fact the possibility of woman's body to keep newborn baby alive with the ,,discharge" is just AMAZING.
